The Royal Visit

July 2018 brought not only the annual festival fortnight to Llangwm but also two very special visitors – their Royal Highnesses Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

The visit was part of the couple’s annual summer trip to Wales, and was intended to celebrate Llangwm’s ‘rich sense of community’.

Their Royal Highnesses spent more than an hour and a half (well over their allotted timescale of one hour!) meeting many members of the local community, and pupils from Cleddau Reach and Hook primary schools, and chatting about life in the village.

They also met local artists, craftspeople and representatives of many village groups; viewed the Talking Tapestry and an attempt to bake the world's largest Welshcake, and heard about the restoration of St Jerome’s Church.

Appropriately for the land of song, they were treated to wonderful music throughout their visit, from young harpist Harriet Devonald, the Mini Jumping Fleas ukulele group, the chorus from WW1: A Village Opera, the Cleddau Reach school choir - and even a chorus from our visiting Polish choir!

Their visit ended with a walk down to Guildford Pill, where they heard about the village’s fishing heritage and the famous Llangwm fisherwomen of old.
